Columbus State University: College Of Education and Health Professions
The intersection of Broadway and 12th Street in Uptown Columbus is arguably the most prominent intersection of the City’s revitalized streetscape. Anchoring the southwest corner of this node, a new high-tech facility was constructed to expand the presence of Columbus State University in Uptown. The College of Education and Health Professions held its first classes in the Spring of 2017.
The CSU project is the first of three Adaptive Use projects totaling in excess of $41 million that Barnes Gibson Partners Architects is designing at this vital intersection. This three story, 90,000 sf facility replaces late 20th century additions to the former Ledger Enquirer newspaper while repurposing the original, historically significant 1930s headquarters building and its 1950s addition.

The new building reflects the rhythm of the historic Mediterranean Eclectic architecture with precast pilasters and spandrels while the brick detailing respects the two and three story designs prominent in the surrounding urban environment. Full height glass curtain wall systems serve as entry and connecting elements and offer a sense of balance between old and new.
This facility includes resources not currently offered on the CSU main campus including a 150 seat tiered auditorium, state-of-the-art simulation labs, and a variety of collaborative spaces.
